office working from home decor desk workspace

Now that most of us are having to work from home, it can be difficult to stay motivated and focused with our homes lives going on all around us, like the washing machine kicking into drying mode whilst your taking an important call or the zillion things that you notice need cleaning before you’ve even sat down to work. It’s important to create some kind of space that helps you to feel calm, inspired and takes you away from the daily distractions. Below are some tips to help you get set up. I have also listed some small online business that can help you create your perfect space.

  1. Location – Find a spot in your home that is the furthest away from distractions and noise. Somewhere with a lot of natural light, close to a window and perhaps with a door you can shut if you need to.
  1. Bring in the light – Natural light is so important, it can improve your mood, give you your daily dose of vit D and help you to sleep better at night. Aside from this it can also help in reducing the electricity bill.
  1. Connect with nature – Bring the outside in and surround yourself with plants. Studies show plants in the home can help reduce stress, sore throats and colds. They also help to clean the indoor air and get rid of toxins, increasing humidity and producing oxygen.
  1. Get rid of clutter – keeping your space minimal and tidy will help you feel in control, less stressed and organized.
  1. Inspiration – Surround yourself with things that will help keep you inspired and on track with your goals. There are so many amazing inspirational prints and quotes you can buy online now or if not make your own and frame. Here are some of my favs;

  1. Invest in some cool stationary – It’s nice to have something to look forward to working with when you have to work. Some of my favs:

  1. Candles – create a soothing office ambience with your candle. Even the ritual of lighting it each morning can be therapeutic. Use a scented candle with fragrances to help relax, reduce stress, energize and focus the mind, like lavender, lemon, cedarwood, or help clear out your sinuses whilst you’re there by burning some Eucolpytus oils.

  1. Fruit bowl – Prepare some healthy snacks that are easily accessible close to your office so that you can avoid being distracted with the state of the home.
  1. Get a good chair or chair pillow so that you are comfortable and your back is supported. You could even try working standing up. I do this by working from a high windowsill at home and it’s really helped with my lower back pain.
  1. Crystals – Holding a crystal or having it close you is thought to promote healing, balance energy and rid the mind and body of anything negative. Specific types of crystal can help you in the work place, like Clear Quartz for staying focused and Black Tourmaline for helping to protect and cleanse you from the negative effects of screen time. They also add decoation to the room and if why not double up a crystal as a coaster and save even more office space. Check out: Kyla London
  1. Invest in a large insulated water bottle so that your water stays cold and you don’t have to keep getting up to re-fill. Check out Swell
